Taranaki Health is the major referral hospital service for the region. The hospital has 261 available in-patient beds located on two campuses at New Plymouth and Hawera, New Zealand.

The hospital provides a range of acute health, emergency services, mental health, and other health related services to a regional population of approximately 106,000. In 2001 the hospital treated over 20,324 in-patients and provided over 44,761 Consultant and 24,074 Allied Health outpatient visits.
