Since 1903 The Esplanade Hotel has been a focal point of Devonport, New Zealand and its waterfront. The hotel has transformed with the use of different architectural styles over the past 100 years.
The English Company who purchased and rescued the Hotel in May 2000 intended to both refurbish and restore the former ‘Grand Old Lady’. This has already been achieved in one wing of the Hotel and most of the ground floor including the Dining Room.
Many of the Art Nouveau architectural features remain from a refurbishment completed during the 1920’s. Today, the hotel still exudes the same charm, warmth and ambience of days gone by. The eye for detail in all aspects of the refurbishment has enhanced the original features allowing the hotel an unquestionable understated elegance.
