The development of Federation Square was one the most complex and ambitious construction projects ever undertaken in Australia.

The Square’s construction took over four years with the direct involvement of over 250 companies and many thousands of Victorian’s. The total area of Federation Square is 3.8 hectares with a floor space of 48,000 square metres. In this area there are 20 restaurants, cafes, bars and designer shops along with a 600 seat Function Centre on the banks of the Yarra River. The Alfred Deakin building also includes the Melbourne studios and offices of the SBS, Australia’s national multicultural and multilingual public broadcaster.
